A one-point poll in KY-6 nudges our forecast, not its shape
Lake Research Partners finds Zach Dembo and Ralph Alvarado effectively tied, but our model still gives the Republican a 91% chance in Kentucky's 6th District.

One new survey in Kentucky's 6th District shows a close race. Lake Research Partners, polling 400 likely voters from August 17 to 23, had Democrat Zach Dembo at 45% and Republican Ralph Alvarado at 44%. On a sample that size, a one-point gap is not a lead; the poll says the two candidates are close to level among the voters it reached.
Our forecast moved, but not far. The model now gives Alvarado a 91% chance and Dembo a 9 in 100 chance, with a mean margin of R+13.1. Our previous run, earlier the same morning, had the Democrat at 5% and the mean margin at R+16.3. The 5th-to-95th percentile range widened at the Democratic end, from R+32.5 to R+0.3 before, to R+29.3 to D+2.9 now. In other words, the poll pulled the distribution about three points and put a narrow Democratic win inside the model's plausible range, while leaving the central expectation a comfortable Republican margin.
That gap between a tied poll and a double-digit projected margin is the model declining to take one 400-person survey as the whole story. It is the only poll of this race in the payload. If more polling lands in the same place, the forecast will follow it further; a single result does not move it much.
Nationally, our average of 22 generic-ballot polls over the past 45 days stands at D+6.7, and our model gives Democrats a 94% chance of a House majority, with a mean of 241.4 seats against the 218 needed for control. One caveat on that figure is ours: our simulation correlates error nationally, by census division, by state and by district, but we have no cluster data to correlate demographically similar districts across regions, so the House control number is a little firmer than a fuller error model would leave it.
