Poll reaction KY-6

A GQR poll with Dembo ahead in KY-6 leaves our forecast where it was

Our model still puts the expected margin at about 16 points in Alvarado's favor, essentially unchanged from the run an hour earlier.

A new GQR survey of 401 likely voters in Kentucky's 6th District, fielded September 25-30, puts Democrat Zach Dembo at 42 percent and Republican Ralph Alvarado at 37 percent. It is the only new poll of the race in this update.

Our forecast did not change in any meaningful way. Our model gives Dembo a 3 in 100 chance of winning the seat, the same as in the run completed at 1:02 PM ET on October 2. Alvarado's chance stays at 97%. Our expected margin moved from R+16.0 to R+16.1.

The range of outcomes our model considers plausible is also nearly identical. Its 5th-to-95th percentile band now runs from R+30.2 to R+1.9, compared with R+30.1 to R+2.0 before. Every outcome inside that band is a Republican win, which is why a single survey with Dembo ahead does not shift the estimate. The poll is one data point from a modest sample, and our model weighs it against everything else it uses for this district.

Nationally, our model gives Democrats a 98% chance of winning a House majority, with a mean of 245.2 Democratic seats against the 218 needed. That figure is marginally firmer than it should be. Our simulation correlates polling error nationally, by census division, by state and by district, but it does not yet link demographically similar districts in different places, because we lack the data to do so. Our generic ballot average stands at D+8.1 across 30 polls from the past 45 days.

The election is 32 days away.
